Name: Jordane Roberts
Location: Norwich, UK
What inspired you to become a photographer?
My main inspiration was a combination of my now best friend’s ambition to be a model and my love for Bettie Page. I have been obsessed with Miss Page for as long as I can remember and from that I became inspired by one of her main photographers, Irving Klaw. I went on to study photography at college and since have been more passionate than ever.
Your main pieces of equipment are?
My camera, a Canon 450D which is now in camera hospital after 3 years of constant use and my Practika film camera. I am a poor student with no money to afford studio lighting, but I do have a trusty Nissin flash gun!
What are some of the concepts/themes you love to explore?
I am a strong believer in using the human form to its full potential, so a lot of my work involves me getting ladies to wear as little as possible. But my main concepts are to push myself and do something people wouldn’t expect. I’m really into pursuing a more fetish look to my work at the moment.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Everything around me. Seriously though, everything inspires me. I am always looking for new things to bring into my work, a lot of the time it’s the things you wouldn’t expect, I go to exhibitions which are great, but it’s mainly the decay and the not so nice things in life which inspire me. Not always though, happy moments inspire me just as much.

With so many trying their hand at being a photographer these days, how do you keep your style unique?
I do what I want to do. So many people have told me to become a wedding photographer or to do portrait photography, but that’s boring for me! I just continue to push myself and hope one day someone will see something in my work others don’t.

If you could do a shoot with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I would have loved to have done a shoot with Bettie! But as she is unfortunately no longer with us, I’d probably have to say Dita Von Teese. She is an amazing woman in so many ways and I’d love to meet her and get her in front of my camera!
Do you have any major goals you hope to achieve this year?
I am in the middle of planning a calendar for 2013 which has been a big goal of mine for a while, no idea why it’s just something I’ve wanted to do. Other than that, just to continue getting myself out there as much as possible so I can hopefully leave my part time job and focus more on my photography.
Massive fan of her work! She’s going to be big!
